I have a complex relation with the word Symphony - it has such a resonance in history and awkwardness in modern history - if less so in more recent times. Mine have been more often a realisation that I had written one to my way of accounting for one - than any grand plan to construct one. With No. 1 however I certainly did try and put my language into symphonic shape - Nos. 2 and 3 were nominations after the fact. No. four was another strike at the pure notion and No. 5 is a strange admix of the two.
As a work shrouded in electronics I became very dissatisfied with the sound of the published 'Version 1' - though others loved it - as an Artist I have to be guided by my own vision and that can change - as is the case here. I feel this new 2017 version puts the music on a different more secure footing. I hope people will understand.
